A Letter to Our Alumni

Dear Alumni of the College of Biological Science and Technology:

To change the destiny of the Chiao Tung University College of Biological Science and Technology, you can join us in promoting the wonderful and warm memories of the past.

The Chiao Tung University spirit of “Gratitude”, “NCTU Family” and “NCTU group” have always been the greatest pillars of its long-term development. Chiao Tung University established the nation’s first Institute of Biological Science and Technology in 1994, and the nation’s first Department of Biological Science and Technology in the 1999. It was once the leader of Taiwan’s biotechnology trends! The College of Biological Science and Technology was founded on the existing electronics, information and semiconductors strengths of Chiao Tung University and the needs of life science, biotechnology and medical care. The dreams of its alumni were built in the Chu Ming Building on the Bo'ai campus of Chiao Tung University. However, the weather-beaten building is no longer suitable for setting up new-generation laboratories. Looking back on the history of our development has made us realize that the Department of Biological Science and Technology has been established for nearly 20 years, and the Institute of Biological Science and Technology also been around for nearly 25 years. The Department of Biological Science and Technology has grown from 5 teachers to become a college with more than 40 teachers today. The College of Biological Science and Technology has moved into a modern science research building, namely, the Jan Qi Biomedical Engineering Building. It has become a life-long dedication in NCTU’s biomedicine development, and after having traveled thousands of miles, it has only one more mile to go.

To successfully relocate, the teachers in the Chiao Tung University College of Biological Science and Technology have decided to launch a fundraiser for the move to the Jan Qi Biomedical Engineering Building. To demonstrate their determination and the importance of relocating the College of Biological Science and Technology to the Jan Qi Biomedical Engineering Building, every teacher in the College of Biological Science and Technology has made a donation. We hope that the alumni of the Department of Biological Science and Technology and the alumni of the College of Biological Science and Technology can join in the fundraiser. We invite you to make a personal donation, a group donation in the name of your class, or even gather your lab partners to contribute in the name of your lab. The Chiao Tung University College of Biological Science and Technology has reached a crossroads in history. We need the biological science and technology people of Chiao Tung University to stand out and shout, "Act Together, we go far!" In the future, biology will be the hub and every other domain will be the spokes. We hope to become the beginning of a major world-class forward-looking research hub in biomedicine and engineering.
